◄ home, sweet home
Today the school operates as an independent vocational secondary school where every student – in addition to the compulsory syllabus of a secondary school – also learns the basics of his chosen artistic profession.
In addition to traditional techniques and creative methods, they are also confronted with the expectations of today and contemporary technical solutions. The basics of design and execution are part of the curriculum, and the students learn to outline plans to find independent solutions to current artistic problems and are able to carry out these plans in a manner appropriate to their age. Freehand drawing, art history, typography, geometry and ethnography are basic subjects for all students, which means that they can change courses later on, if they wish.
Although a majority of our students remain in their chosen fields (i.e.,
continue their studies at universities of arts), some choose another visual
field after graduation.
Budapest, January 2008.
“In the name of the most honourable Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary,
[...] since her holiness, considering the organization and daily perfection of the
cultivation of trades and various types of crafts of utmost importance and
usefulness for the entire Hungarian kingdom and its adjoined parts, based on the
permanent system of upbringing, according to which so-called drawing schools
(scholae graphidis seu artis ut vocant delineratoriae) should be introduced to
the elementary schools, especially for artisans and craftsmen, has decreed that
the drawing school should be established for the good of the public in the chief
Buda elementary school, together with the neighbouring City of Pest as they lie
in the heart of the country and are assessable for all artisans and craftsmen
from every territory.”
