Goals and operation of the school

Our school has manifold tasks. On one hand, we provide education for young professionals, well informed in artistic fields and who will receive an intermediate degree upon graduation, to prepare them for their lives in the field of fine and applied arts. We also give them a chance to make a living independently as artisans and craftsmen, in professions that are dying out today and therefore even more valuable. Our main goal, however, is to assist in preparing highly talented and hard-working students for admission to the College of the Arts or to other (less closely related) colleges or universities (Architecture Department of the Technical University, Art History Department of ELTE, Teacher’s Colleges, etc.).

From the very beginning, our students belong to a certain department and are instructed most intensively in that subject. In addition, they receive several hours of freehand drawing, art history and other supplementary artistic subjects; in other words, they receive a thorough general art education.

There are currently 12 professional departments at the Secondary School for Visual Arts:
Bookbinding and Book Design | Cartoon and Animation Films | Ceramics | Furniture Design | Glass Design | Graphic Design | Jewellery and Silversmithing | Leather Design | Painting | Photography| Sculpture | Textile Design
